Tangible Science. A narration on mathematics.

The Göttingen Collection of Mathematical Models and Instruments is the most extensive collection of historical mathematical models in Germany and includes more than 500 exhibits of plaster, wood, threads, metal, paperboard. The exhibits are divided into mathematical categories, following the historical catalogue of the collection.
The collection covers a period of time between 1780 and 1930; most exhibits date back to 1870 until 1920.

I was fascinated by the beauty and complexity of the 3D reproductions, and I was intrigued by the idea of exploring the collection. I've used the five qualities of Italo Calvino's Six Memos for the Next Millennium - lightness, quickness, exactitude, visibility, and multiplicity - as editorial criteria and then crafted a book.

Each one of the important values identified by Calvino seems to be part of the classification of the Göttingen Collection.
